About

History

In 1853, the state-funded East Florida Seminary took over the Kingsbury Academy in Ocala. The seminary moved to Gainesville in the 1860s and later was consolidated with the state’s land-grant Florida Agricultural College, then in Lake City. In 1905, by legislative action, the college became a university and was moved to Gainesville.

Education

At UF, our students utilize more than 200 research, service and education centers, bureaus and institutes. With some of the most future-focused facilities led by some of the best minds in their fields, it’s no wonder UF is consistently ranked among the nation’s top universities. Rankings like 4th among AAU publics and 3rd in Kiplinger’s “Best Values in Public Colleges” are a result of UF’s commitment to provide the highest quality education at the best value.

Research

With more than 200 research, service and education centers, bureaus and institutes, UF is dedicated to having a better impact through better research. Together, our focus is on improving lives. Not just in the lab or in theory, but in real life. We’re working together to bring better technology to more people. Our Clinical and Translational Science Institute is speeding the transformation of scientific discoveries into medical advances for patients. Advances like Trusopt, a leading treatment for glaucoma, are reaching patients sooner for a greater impact.
