About

History

  • The Vermont Avenue campus of the University of California (known as UC's "Southern Branch") opens, offering two-year undergraduate teachers-training programs.
  • The Regents of the University of California adopt the name "University of California at Los Angeles" in place of "Southern Branch."

The UCLA Career Center provides comprehensive services and resources to aid students, alumni and employers. From the first day of freshman year through every level of graduate study, the center helps students unify their academic and career goals.

Housing services

All of our residence halls are within a couple minutes' walk of each other - and classes not much farther away. Along that walk, students enjoy such amenities as palm-tree terraces, cafes, vibrant vistas and recreation centers. Just one stroll around campus and you'll understand why more than 96% of freshmen live here.

Library services

The mission of the UCLA Library is to provide access to and delivery of information resources to UCLA students, faculty, and staff in support of the research and instructional mission of the university. Relying on its highly skilled staff, the Library encourages innovation, capitalizes on appropriate technologies, forges effective partnerships and aggressively promotes excellence.

Our Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is recognized as one of the top five hospitals in the country and is consistently ranked the best in the western U.S. — and it's right on our campus. The Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center is rated in the Top 10 nationally among university student health facilities.The UCLA Police Department's priority is the safety of our students.

With more than 1,000 clubs and student organizations, UCLA is a mosaic of culture and activity. And the majority of our students fill their schedules to capacity.

They are influential figures at the Volunteer Center and leaders at the Center for Community Learning and Community Programs Office.

They are intramural basketball players and sailors. They're active in fraternity and sorority life and coordinators on the Campus Events Commission.
