The Lisbon Consortium - Faculty of Human Sciences

The program in Culture Studies at the Catholic University of Portugal is part of the Lisbon Consortium network, a partnership between the University, the Lisbon City Hall and prestigious cultural institutions in Lisbon:

• Culturgest Foundation

• Portuguese Film Museum

• National Theatre Museum

• National Centre for Culture

• Orient Foundation

The Lisbon Oceanarium, the Luso-American Foundation for Development and the Millennium Foundation are Associate Partners of the network.

The aim of this network is to promote the advanced training in Cultural Management within the theoretical field of Culture Studies, as well as the professional preparation and integration of students and researchers through the partner institutions.

This collaborative network builds on a practice-based research model and brings together theory, applied research, and cultural management. The programme thus combines theoretical reflection and professional expertise.

The MA in Culture Studies at the Lisbon Consortium was ranked nr. 3 by the worldwide Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking in Arts and Cultural Management, while the International PhD program was selected by the Portuguese Science Foundation for an endowment for the 2014-2018 period.

The network is part of many international cooperations, namely the European Excellence Network in Cultural Studies and the European Summer School in Cultural Studies.

The program is also part of the Atlantic Erasmus Training Consortium, a network that helps students finding internship opportunities abroad under the Erasmus agreement.

The MA and PhD programmes in Culture Studies are affiliated with the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC), a research unit with national funding from the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT). The Centre has been conceived as an interdisciplinary hub at the interface of communication and culture which aims at promoting and developing multidisciplinary research in the areas of culture, literary studies, language sciences and media studies.

CECC has organized its work in three research groups which have allowed for the fulfilment of its interdisciplinary aims, while ensuring a continuous dynamic of cross feeding in-depth knowledge. In this sense, the option for the research groups and their thematic and epistemological definition is simultaneously a question of organizing the research unit and of defining the best ways to achieve the intended results and outcomes.
