The world is changing, and the problems facing it are becoming increasingly complex and have no respect for the boundaries of a single scientific field. As one of the premier institutes of higher education in Switzerland, the EPFL has the responsibility of training future scientists and engineers to face and conquer these challenges. To do so, we need to rethink how we train our students, and in particular, how we can enable them embrace the transdisciplinary approaches necessary for solving such complex problems. Our answer is the Discovery Learning Labs program (DLL).The DLL is a combination of a new pedagogical approach combined with the physical infrastructure to support it.
