Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is Europe's most important Catholic university. With its five campuses of Milan, Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona, Rome and Campobasso, it is also the only university in Italy operating on a national scale. Since its foundation in 1921 in Milan, thousands of students have graduated from the university, many of whom having reached notable levels of achievement in diverse professional spheres.
With 5 campuses, 14 faculties, 42,000 students and a teaching staff of more than 1,400, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is Europe's largest private university. Founded in Milan in 1921 by Father Agostino Gemelli, the University also has campuses in Rome, Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona and Campobasso. Just a few figures illustrate the breadth and depth of the University's core curriculum, in both humanities and sciences: 44 three-year degree programmes, 38 specialist degree programmes, 1 four-year degree programme, 4 intensive-study degree programmes, 53 schools of specialization, almost 100 master degree programmes and 7 other post-graduate schools.
Research activity draws on 54 institutes, 22 departments and 70 research centres, plus another 4 centres at the University, and is aimed towards the study and understanding of issues crucial to life and society: new frontiers in economics and bioethics, the recovery of cultural assets, changes in the field of law, family trends, the phenomenon of the mass media, the development of political systems, the aims of medicine, technological applications of mathematics and physics, and the most recent discoveries in environmental research.

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore has a total of more than 600,000 square metres of floor space dedicated to education and scientific research, matched by the assistance guaranteed by the Agostino Gemelli General Hospital in Rome: a single university with a campus extending to six Italian cities, with its seat in the historic Cistercian monastery situated near the Saint Ambrose Basilica in the heart of Milan.
The CUS (Centro Universitario Sportivo) has 11 division teams, athletics, rugby, tennis, sailing, swimming and water polo, ice hockey, rowing, canoeing, volleyball, softball and basketball, and a number of fitness courses that are open to any student at any level.
CUS Milano is the perfect place for anyone who loves sport: it offers the chance to participate in the various activity sections and sports clubs either on a recreational or a competitive basis.
